Tonight [14 November 2017] a team from Centrica Storage met with and updated ward and parish councillors and local residents about future plans for the Caythorpe gas storage facility, near Bridlington. The site had historically produced natural gas, and Centrica Storage later considered the depleted gas reservoir for gas storage purposes. However, due to the prevailing conditions of the gas storage market, Centrica Storage concluded that it would not be viable to pursue the project, and is now working towards decommissioning the site and returning it to its previous state.
Work to decommission the gas field will begin with the plugging of one of the two wells on the site, with initial activities taking place before the end of 2017 and into early 2018. The majority of the work will be carried out in 2018, with a view to returning the site to its previous state in 2019.
The focus throughout this work will be on completing the decommissioning process safely, and with minimal disruption to the local community. With that in mind, Centrica Storage invited the three local parish councils – Boynton, Rudston and Burton Agnes – ward councillors and residents to a meeting on Tuesday, November 14, to discuss the future plans in more detail and to answer any questions. Information about the ongoing work will continue to be published on this website. In the meantime, if you would like to speak to the Caythorpe gas storage project community representative, he can be contacted on the following number: 07881 816369.
